National Technology Day is celebrated on May 11 every year in India to commemorate the successful test firing of the first indigenous Shakti-1 nuclear missile at the Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan in 1998. The day is celebrated to honor the achievements of Indian scientists and engineers who have contributed to the development of new technologies.
In previous years, on National Technology Day, the Indian government has made several announcements related to the promotion of technology and innovation. For example, in 2020, the government announced the launch of the “Chunauti” scheme to promote innovation among startups in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. The scheme aims to provide funding and mentoring support to 3,000 startups over the next five years.
It is possible that in 2023, as part of the National Technology Day celebrations, Prime Minister Modi launched multiple projects worth Rs 5800 crore to promote technology and innovation in various sectors.
