NFC Chip on iPhone 15 Malfunctions Following Charging on BMW Wireless Charging Pad

The latest iPhone 15 models have been generating significant heat and Apple has acknowledged the problem, promising a solution through an upcoming software update. However, these new iPhones are facing additional issues. According to a report, the NFC (Near-field Communication) chip in the iPhone 15 series becomes dysfunctional after being charged using the wireless charging pad in BMW cars.

Numerous BMW owners have voiced their complaints on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), stating that their iPhone 15’s NFC chip stops working after charging the device using their vehicle’s wireless charging pad. The NFC chip plays a crucial role in enabling features such as Apple Pay and digital car keys.

Users have reported encountering an “Could Not Set Up Apple Pay” error message within the Wallet app after charging their iPhones in their BMW cars. Some individuals even had their devices replaced by Apple after confirming that the NFC chip had indeed failed, as reported by MacRumors.

The majority of complaints regarding this issue have come from users of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models, which are the new titanium models equipped with the A17 Pro chip. Nevertheless, there are indications that the standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models might also be affected. Currently, it remains unclear which BMW car models are implicated in this problem.

The exact cause of this issue has yet to be determined, and the extent of NFC failures is unknown. Apple has not provided an official comment on the matter, but it is anticipated that the company will address this issue in the near future. In the meantime, it is advisable to refrain from charging your iPhone 15 using your BMW’s wireless charger.
