Apple’s adoption of OLED technology has been relatively slow and cautious. While certain iPhone and Apple Watch models have embraced OLED and experienced its advantages, other products like iPad and MacBook are still awaiting its implementation.
However, recent rumors suggest that both iPad and MacBook may soon receive OLED displays. According to a report from research firm Omdia, the iPad could be the first device in Apple’s lineup to feature OLED technology.
According to recent reports, Apple is making progress in bringing OLED technology to its iPad Pro models. The 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models slated for release in 2024 are said to feature low-temperature multi-crystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED panels.
Production is expected to begin in the first quarter of next year. This move signifies Apple’s commitment to using top-of-the-line OLED displays, particularly for its Pro lineup. While the current Mini LED LCD panels on iPad Pro models offer impressive quality, OLED displays offer advantages such as perfect blacks, per-pixel light control, excellent contrast, HDR capabilities, and improved power efficiency.
The LTPO technology is expected to enable dynamic display refresh rate adjustment for further power savings. However, the report also suggests that the incorporation of OLED panels into MacBook models may face delays, with an expected release date pushed back to 2027, contrary to previous rumors.
