Apple and Qualcomm have extended their agreement for Apple to use Qualcomm’s 5G modems for three more years, covering iPhone launches in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
This extension comes amid previous speculation that Apple was planning to transition to its own in-house 5G modem solution by 2025.
Apple is currently Qualcomm’s largest client, contributing significantly to the chipmaker’s revenue.
While Apple is working on developing its own 5G modem, patent-related issues with Qualcomm, whose patents expire in 2029 and 2030, have arisen.
Apple aims to create its 5G modem, which could be integrated into its A-series System on a Chip (SoC) for improved battery life and performance.
