Pure Storage is an IT pioneer in delivering storage-as-a-service in a multi-cloud world. The organization announced its formal entry to the Indian market on July 14, 2020, with a complete sales, channels, and marketing team under the leadership of country manager, Ramanujam Komanduri, and the appointment of new distributors and resellers. Being a leading provider of enterprise data flash storage solutions, Pure Storage is considered to be a key player in the solid-state storage array market and aims to provide a seamless transition from alternate storage methods.
Below is an excerpt from a recent interaction between IT-Voice and Ramanujam Komanduri:
Prateek: How has the organization performed since its entry into the Indian market?
Ramanujam Komanduri: It has been very encouraging. We knew there was a pent-up demand for our technologies and the drive towards digital transformation has helped drive that demand. We’ve seen this translate into market momentum when the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Storage Systems Tracker for Q2 2021 showed Pure Storage growing 45% quarter-on-quarter in the India External Storage Systems Market, with the overall market declining 11%.
Prateek: What value does Pure Storage bring to the Indian enterprise storage market?
Ramanujam Komanduri: Pure Storage has been an innovator in the data storage and management space since our inception 12 years ago when we were the first to bring an affordable yet powerful and reliable all-flash storage system into enterprise mission-critical environments and we continue to push the innovation envelope.
Our recent announcements are a roadmap for the direction we see the industry moving towards. The next generation of infrastructure will be “infrastructure as code”. Developers need speed and flexibility and we have to make things so simple that IT departments can accelerate their development activities in ways that differentiate their companies.
What Pure Storage is seeking to do is to bring the cloud operating model to our customers and provide them with the infrastructure experience that enables a single and seamless model across private and public clouds.
Storage has lagged the rest of IT. The virtualization and abstraction of computing and networking over the last two decades have created tremendous flexibility for operators and developers. It is time we bring the same agility to storage.
Prateek: What will be the company’s strategies to gain market share in the market?
Ramanujam Komanduri: Through constant innovation and being on-hand to help our customers solve their most challenging data management challenges. Pure Storage has one of the highest Net Promoter Scores in the industry and that’s because our customers are some of the happiest customers on the planet.
Prateek: What are some of the innovative product offerings from the portfolio?
Ramanujam Komanduri: Starting with our flagship, the FlashArray//X, it’s the first all-NVME storage array for Tier 0 and Tier 1 workloads. We recently announced the FlashArray//XL for even greater performance. We also have FlashArray//C, the first all-QLC flash storage array delivering NVMe performance, hyper-consolidation, and simplified management for capacity-oriented workloads.

As the world marches on toward digitalization and sustainability, this is a great opportunity for Indian companies to show true global leadership.
