VMware has confirmed the appointment of Sanjay Deshmukh as Head, End-User Computing (EUC) Business, Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ).
Deshmukh will join the new role starting May 12, 2014, according to a VMware spokesperson. CRN was the first to report about this development.
Based out of Singapore, Deshmukh will will report to Sanjay Mirchandani, Senior Vice President and General Manager, APJ, VMware.
Commenting on the appointment, Mirchandani said, “We are making this appointment at a very important stage as we ramp up our EUC business. Sanjay’s experience and expertise will help us build our business across Asia Pacific and position our offerings as the solution of choice for enterprises in the mobile cloud.”
While VMware has been a dominant market leader in the server virtualization space, in VDI segment it has lagged behind Citrix. The company has already announced EUC as a major focus area and also acquired AirWatch, an enterprise mobile management and security solutions company, in February 2014. Last month, it released VMware Horizon 6 VDI.
Deshmukh joins VMware after a 4-year stint at VDI market leader Citrix where he was the Area Vice President for Indian sub-continent. Prior to Citrix, he worked with SAP as Vice President for the Business User and Platforms business. He had joined SAP as part of its acquisition of Business Objects where he was Country Manager India and Saarc from 2001 to 2008.
