Bengaluru-based electric vehicle (EV) startup, Simple Energy, has unveiled its second electric scooter, the Dot One, with an introductory price of Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) for customers in Bengaluru who pre-booked the scooter. This special offer will be available while inventory lasts. The official launch price for new customers, expected to be slightly higher, will be disclosed in January 2024. Bookings for the Dot One are now open online.
The Dot One is currently exclusively available in Bengaluru, with details and prices for other regions set to be announced in January. The scooter comes equipped with a fixed battery, providing a certified range of 151 km and an IDC (Indian Drive Cycle) range of 160 km. It is offered in four colors: Namma Red, Brazen Black, Grace White, and Azure Blue. The Dot One includes a 750W charger and will undergo phased deliveries starting in Bengaluru before extending to other cities.
According to Simple Energy, the Dot One, featuring specially designed tubeless tires on 12-inch wheels, boasts an acceleration from 0 to 40 km/h in just 2.77 seconds. With a 3.7 kWh battery capacity and an 8.5 kW electric motor, the e-scooter delivers a peak torque output of 72 Nm. Safety features include CBS (Combined Braking System) paired with efficient disc brakes. The vehicle offers 35 liters of under-seat storage. Notable features include a touchscreen instrument cluster with diverse functionality and app connectivity.
At its introductory price, the Simple One competes with the Ola S1 X, priced at Rs 90,000.
It’s worth noting that this launch follows Simple Energy’s first electric scooter, the Simple One, and the introduction of the Dot One is part of the company’s expansion in the electric scooter market. The move aligns with the broader trend of increasing interest and demand for electric two-wheelers in India.
With the Dot One, Simple Energy aims to attract customers with its competitive pricing, impressive range, and features. The phased delivery approach starting in Bengaluru indicates a strategic expansion plan, likely targeting key markets with a gradual rollout.
As the EV market in India continues to evolve, the competition among electric scooter manufacturers intensifies. The emphasis on factors such as range, performance, and pricing is crucial for companies to gain traction in this growing segment.
The Dot One’s specifications, including its acceleration speed, battery capacity, and safety features, position it as a contender in the electric scooter market. The company’s focus on app connectivity and a touchscreen instrument cluster also aligns with the increasing integration of technology in the EV sector.
As more details and the official launch price for new customers are set to be revealed in January, the Dot One’s market reception and potential impact on the electric scooter landscape will be closely watched. The competitive pricing and features showcased by Simple Energy indicate a commitment to addressing the evolving preferences of Indian consumers in the electric two-wheeler market.
