Smart Namo, which has been churning out mobile phones dedicated to India’s prime minister Narendra Modi, has now announced to set up a mobile manufacturing unit near Varanasi – the constituency of Narendra Modi. For the same, it has joined hands with Chinese Manufacturing Alliance and GuoXinTong Group
“Smart Namo along with its partner GuoXinTong Technologies, will initially setup the first cluster for the smartphone segment to make India`s first “Desi” smartphone, competitive enough to Xiaomi or Apple Smart Namo will customize, manufacture, and assemble entry level feature phones at Varanasi Cluster within the next 3 months,” the company said in a press release.
“Smart Namo and GuoXintong group, along with China Manufacturing alliance will pledge a total of 1.2 billion USD of investment over duration of 5-10 years in the region,” the release further added.
Meanwhile speaking on the project, its co-convenor, Ammeet Desai said, “There are lot of challenges ahead, with the need of stable power for production, and taxation benefits, India will be able to suffice its own demand through local handset production.”
Note that Smart Namo had earlier promised to establish an assembly unit in Gandhinagar (Gujarat) to manufacture its feature phones and smartphones.
