On October 10, Sony, the Japanese electronics giant, introduced an updated version of its popular gaming console, the PlayStation 5 (PS5). The revamped PS5 boasts a more streamlined design, occupying 30 percent less space than its predecessor. It also offers enhanced on-board storage, featuring an impressive 1TB capacity, an upgrade from the prior model’s 825GB storage.
For those interested in the digital model, Sony now provides an option to include a modular Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, which is available as a separate purchase at a price of $79.99 in the US. Both models come equipped with a horizontal stand, but the vertical stand designed for the new PS5 versions can be acquired separately for $29.99.
Sony has also worked on reducing the weight of the console, with the standard PS5 model, featuring a built-in disc drive, seeing an 18 percent weight reduction in comparison to its predecessor. The Digital Edition, on the other hand, is significantly lighter, weighing 30 percent less than the last-generation model.
In terms of color options, the updated PS5 models will introduce new choices, including an all-matte black design and colors from the Deep Earth Collection, such as Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver. These color options will become available early next year.
Initially, the new PS5 will be released exclusively in the US market, with a global launch anticipated in the months following the US launch. For those interested in the Digital Edition, there will be a $50 price increase, making it available for $449.99, while the standard model will retail for $499.99 in the US.
These updates aim to enhance user experiences and continue the success of the PS5, one of Sony’s flagship products in the gaming industry. It’s important to note that the new sleek design, increased storage, and new color options cater to gamers’ evolving needs and preferences, offering more choices and better performance in the gaming console market.
