Spotify is introducing changes to its desktop experience, aiming to enhance user exploration, curation, and organization of music on computers and web browsers. The streaming giant is redesigning the “Your Library” and “Now Playing” interfaces to align with its mobile apps and provide a consistent user experience across platforms.
The main content area will remain unchanged, serving as the central hub for browsing, discovering, and accessing recommended songs and podcasts. However, Spotify is introducing new features to improve usability and efficiency.
On the left side of the window, users will find the new “Your Library” space, allowing quick access to saved music and podcast collections. Spotify claims that users have found this new layout helpful in saving time, providing better overviews, and enabling easier playlist switching.
The right side of the window will feature the “Now Playing” view, providing information about the currently playing song or podcast. In addition to album art, users will have access to more details about the song and artist, including tour dates and merchandise. Selected podcasts will also offer transcripts.
These redesigned views offer personalized customization, delivering a more immersive experience, enhanced context, and quicker access to personal favorites.
Furthermore, Spotify is introducing the Friend Activity feed, accessible through the “friends” icon located next to the profile picture in the top-right corner of the main content area. This feature enables users to view their friends’ activities and music preferences.
In related news, Spotify is reportedly planning to introduce a new subscription tier called “Supremium,” offering lossless audio streaming. This more expensive plan, internally known as “Supremium,” is expected to launch later this year in non-US markets, according to a Bloomberg report. The lossless audio streaming feature, initially announced as “Spotify HiFi” in February 2021, has yet to be made available to users, even after two years since the announcement.
