SuperGaming, a Pune-based developer, is set to introduce ‘Indus,’ an upcoming made-in-India battle royale game, within the immensely popular Fortnite by Epic Games. This integration aims to provide players with a glimpse of Indus’ gameplay, including its maps and weapons, through Fortnite’s creator mode. The collaboration is anticipated to generate significant attention for Indus before its official launch. Aligning with Fortnite’s battle royale genre, the play styles and gameplay mechanics are expected to share similarities.
Christelle D’cruz, co-founder of SuperGaming, expressed enthusiasm about this move, highlighting how it will facilitate quicker testing of Indus’ gameplay with wider audiences and enable more gamers to experience ‘Indo-Futurism’ within their preferred game—Fortnite.
Indus, currently in development, is inspired by an ‘Indo-futuristic’ world, drawing from the ancient Indus Valley civilization, one of the oldest known societies. Roby John, SuperGaming’s founder and CEO, likened the game to Wakanda in Black Panther, envisioning a futuristic portrayal of India’s rich history and culture, much like how Wakanda represents Africa in a futuristic context.
The creation process for this collaboration utilized Epic Games’ Unreal Editor for Fortnite and involved a small team of two women working intensely over roughly 27 days. Although the release date for this collaborative experience is yet to be disclosed, it is anticipated to be announced soon.
Roby John emphasized SuperGaming’s conviction in showcasing India’s culture and talent on a global stage, asserting that Fortnite’s vast player base of around 220 million monthly players globally provides an exceptional platform to introduce Indus and Indo-Futurism to the world.
Indus was initially announced to enter closed beta during the Indian festival season in August, but an official release date is still pending.
