Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) directed to pay $210 million penalty to DXC Technology in trade secrets dispute

Indian IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is facing a $210 million fine after a federal court jury in Dallas, Texas, found the company guilty of stealing trade secrets from DXC Technology.

The case, which dates back to a 2019 lawsuit by DXC’s predecessor, Computer Sciences Corp, alleges that TCS, while working for Transamerica, rebranded 2,200 Transamerica workers and created a rival life insurance platform using access to CSC’s software.

The jury ordered TCS to pay $140 million for its “willful and malicious” misuse of trade secrets and an additional $70 million for stealing those secrets.

TCS refuted the allegations, stating it “respectfully disagrees with the jury’s advisory verdict” and plans to continue litigating the case.

Last week, TCS revealed a $125 million provision for the third quarter following a loss in another litigation and claim involving Epic Systems.

Transamerica terminated its 10-year agreement with TCS two years ahead of schedule in June.
