After its global debut four years ago, Tesla has finally started delivering the highly anticipated all-electric Cybertruck. Priced at USD60,990 (approximately Rs 50.82 lakh), the Cybertruck claims a 0-96km/h acceleration time of 2.6 seconds in its most powerful mode.
During the delivery event, Tesla CEO Elon Musk showcased a video where the Cybertruck, while towing another Porsche 911, outpaced a Porsche 911 on a quarter-mile drag strip. However, specific details about the opposing model or the electric pickup, such as trim level or distance covered, were not disclosed in the video.
The EV giant’s brief demonstration seemed like a promotional effort to highlight the capabilities of the electric pickup, showing an electric vehicle surpassing a gasoline-powered one. The top version of the Cybertruck boasts a towing capacity of 4,990 kg and a 0-96km/h acceleration time of 2.6 seconds.
The EV offers three drivetrain options: rear-wheel drive, dual-motor all-wheel drive, and tri-motor all-wheel drive. The single-motor base version is expected to have a range of slightly over 400 km. The dual-motor setup can accelerate from 0 to 96km/h in 4.1 seconds, generating around 600bhp, with an estimated range of less than 550 km.
The tri-motor setup, found in the top-spec Cybertruck (Cyberbeast), is expected to produce a combined 845bhp and around 14,000Nm of peak torque, with a 2.6-second 0-96km/h acceleration time and an estimated range of 515 km. The production model features a glass roof, front and rear LED lighting strips, super-alloy stainless steel body panels, an 18.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, concealed AC vents, a square-shaped steering wheel, and a 9.4-inch touchscreen for rear passengers.
Tesla plans to begin deliveries for the next batch of Cybertrucks, including dual-motor and tri-motor all-wheel-drive versions, early next year.
