The North Eastern Council inaugurates a ‘5G Experience Center’ in Guwahati

Minister G Kishan Reddy, who heads the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), officially launched the “5G Experience Centre at Tech City” in Guwahati. This initiative is a collaborative project between the North Eastern Council, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (Government of India), and AMTRON (Government of Assam). The Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) is also actively involved in promoting the development of 5G applications in the North Eastern Region.

During the event, the Minister inaugurated the ‘Skill on Wheels’ initiative by TSSC, aimed at enhancing the skills of individuals and certifying them for various positions in the telecom industry through NCVET Certified Courses provided by TSSC. The North Eastern Council supports these courses and adheres to NCVET norms mandated by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India. Additionally, digital MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) courses aligned with TSSC norms are also available online.

Minister G. Kishan Reddy emphasized the significance of the project, highlighting that the North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNER, has fully funded India’s first 5G Training Labs and 5G Health Use Case applications across all eight North Eastern states. This project, executed in collaboration with various government agencies such as the Ministry of DoNER, Department of Telecommunications, and Telecom Sector Skill Council, was completed in a record time of around 75 days. The 5G Labs are expected to provide valuable skills to the youth of the North East, particularly in the context of Industry 4.0, and help the region progress towards its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for 2030.

Arvind Bali, CEO of Telecom Sector Skill Council, expressed enthusiasm for the 5G Experience Centre at Tech City, Guwahati, and emphasized its potential for upskilling the youth in the North East and enhancing their livelihood prospects.
