The Japanese tech-giant has taken to Twitter to announce that their next-generation virtual reality headsets – the PlayStation VR 2 is expected to release in early 2023. While, the flashy new gadget won’t be available in time for Christmas shopping, December is when customers should be able to start pre-bookings. Sony has not disclosed the pricing of the upcoming VR headset just yet.
Sony had announced the much-awaited virtual reality headset earlier this year but hadn’t released the device for sale at that point of time. The PlayStation VR 2 will sport a 110-degree field of view coupled with a 2000×2040 resolution for each eye ball of the user. The display will support 90/120Hz frame rates for an immersive and fluid viewing experience.
The headset will require the PlayStation 5 in order to operate. The headgear will likely also come bundled with controllers with haptic engines that use the cutting-edge technology along with distinctive vibratory sensations. On top of that, the 6-axis motion sensor coupled with four cameras throughout the headgear. Further, an IR camera will be used for eye-tracking in coordination with the headset and the controllers.
Sony said that the new headset contains a lens-adjustment slider to enable you focus the image more accurately without having to completely move the headset, along with a revised venting arrangement to decrease misting inside the headgear. The PlayStation VR headset’s second generation is also lighter and more streamlined than the first. It has already been made known that more than 20 titles from Sony’s vast library would be released concurrently with the headgear. A few of the games are Horizon Call of the Wild by Guerrilla, Among us VR by Guerrilla, and Runner.
