Samsung has announced that some devices will not directly transition from One UI 5.1 to One UI 6.0. Instead, the company plans to introduce One UI 5.1.1 to a range of devices first. One UI 5.1.1 was initially launched with the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9 tablets, and Samsung intends to extend this update to older models as well.
For devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, One UI 5.1.1 will be rolled out this month. Meanwhile, older models such as the Galaxy Z Flip, Z Flip 3, Z Fold 2, and Z Fold 3 are expected to receive the update sequentially.
One UI 5.1.1 brings several new features to foldable devices, including two-handed drag-and-drop functionality for transferring content between apps, the ability to open apps in pop-up windows that can be tucked to the side of the screen for quick access later, quick switching between pop-up view and Multi Window mode for compatible apps, and more.
Apart from foldable phones, Samsung will also release One UI 5.1.1 for a variety of Galaxy tablets across different ranges, including mid-range and high-end models. Although certain features like the Flex Mode panel won’t be available for tablets, they will still benefit from multitasking enhancements and an improved taskbar that enables faster switching between recently used apps.
For users who wish to experience the benefits of One UI 5.1.1 sooner, purchasing devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, or tablets from the Galaxy Tab S9 lineup will offer immediate access. However, those who prefer not to upgrade their hardware can look forward to Samsung eventually enhancing their experience through firmware updates.
