u-blox Ultra-Compact 4G LTE Module Certified For Verizon’s 4G LTE Network

ubox logo 4gSwiss-based u-blox, a leading provider of wireless and global positioning chips and modules, today announced that it’s ultra-compact TOBY-L100 4G LTE module has been certified by Verizon Wireless. The certification of u-blox’s TOBY-L100 module will enable customers to leverage the Verizion Wireless network to develop Internet of Things (IoT) and M2M applications.

The certification allows customers to design u-blox’s TOBY-L100 LTE modules into devices operating on Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network. Applications using u-blox’ TOBY-L100 module include wireless routers, vehicle infotainment and telematics systems, industrial automation, metering, digital signage, and security systems. The TOBY-L100 is a fully integrated solution complete with power management, IP stack and USB 2.0 interface that can be easily embedded within an existing application. A mini PCI-express version, the MPCI-L100, is also available for customers with existing devices who want to easily migrate to the more cost-efficient and robust u-blox technology.

“Having passed the certification requirements, we are pleased to offer our TOBY-L100 LTE module that will enable development of new and competitive products for industrial, automotive and consumer applications in the United States,” says Nikolaos Papadopoulos, President of u-blox America.

TOBY-L100’s small form factor supports u-blox’s nested design philosophy which allows smooth migration to LTE from u-blox’s CDMA, GSM, and HSPA modules. The module is also backed by a team of U.S-based applications engineers, to provide comprehensive technical support.

TOBY-L100 delivers ultra-fast data rates and operates in the automotive temperature range from –40°C to +85°C. USB drivers for Windows XP and Windows 7, as well as RIL software for Android 4.0 and 4.2 are available free of charge.

The MPCI-L100, the mini-PCI version, allows customers to switch to the latest u-blox technology.

The LGA format module measures 22.8 x 35.6 x 2.8 mm3, allowing for easy manufacturing. An evaluation kit EVK-L10 with the leading evaluation software m-center is also available.
