In May 2023, WhatsApp introduced the “Chat Lock” feature to give users more control over their privacy. Now, the platform has taken a step further by introducing the “Secret Code,” providing an additional layer of protection for locked chats. This feature aims to make it more challenging for others to access your chats, especially if they gain access to your phone or if you share your phone with someone else.
With the Secret Code, users can set a unique password that is separate from their phone unlock code, adding an extra level of security to their locked chats. Additionally, users have the option to hide the Locked Chats folder from the chat list, enhancing confidentiality.
Users now have the flexibility to make these locked chats discoverable only by entering the secret code in the search bar or by displaying them in the chat list. To simplify the process, locking a new chat can be done with a long-press action, eliminating the need to navigate through chat settings.
The Secret Code feature is being rolled out today and will become available globally in the coming months. WhatsApp is committed to continually enhancing the functionalities of Chat Lock to empower users in safeguarding their privacy.
