WhatsApp is now officially available for Wear OS smartwatches

WhatsApp is officially released for Wear OS smartwatches after a beta version was available for a few months. The app is now stable and finalized, and it requires a Wear OS 3 smartwatch for installation and use. With this app, users can initiate new conversations, respond to messages with text, send voice messages, use emoji, and even take calls directly from their smartwatch. Quick reply support is also included. For users with Wear OS 3 smartwatches that have their own mobile data connectivity, all these features can be accessed without the need for a connected phone nearby.
The timing of WhatsApp’s release for Wear OS smartwatches, just one week before Samsung’s Unpacked event, where new Wear OS smartwatches will be unveiled, may or may not be coincidental. It remains to be seen if there’s any connection between the two events.
In addition to WhatsApp, Google had previously announced in May that Spotify would introduce new Tiles for its Wear OS app this year. The expectation is that these new features will add more excitement and functionality to the world of third-party apps for Google’s wearable platform.
