WhatsApp Channels, a feature recently introduced in India and other regions, has reached over 500 million monthly active users, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Launched just seven weeks ago, the feature acts as a one-way broadcasting platform, allowing administrators to share various content such as text messages, images, videos, stickers, and polls.
WhatsApp is actively developing a searchable directory to help users discover channels aligned with their interests.
The directory will cover topics like hobbies, sports teams, local updates, and more.
Users can join WhatsApp Channels by clicking on invitation links shared in chats, emails, or online.
Additionally, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature that allows the sharing of polls within channels, aiming to enhance interaction between administrators and followers.
These channel polls will offer the option to limit responses to a single choice, with privacy being a priority to ensure the confidentiality of poll votes, protecting users’ phone numbers from disclosure to channel owners or other followers.
