Microsoft has suggested that Sony may release a PS5 Slim later this year. This information was disclosed in documents filed by Microsoft as part of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) vs Microsoft hearing.
According to Microsoft’s prediction, Sony is expected to launch a PlayStation 5 Slim at a reduced price point, similar to the less expensive Digital Edition currently offered by PlayStation.
The documents also mention the possibility of Sony releasing a handheld version of the PlayStation 5 for under $300. It’s worth noting that Microsoft does not provide any third-party sources to support these claims in the document.
The FTC vs Microsoft case is a significant battle for Microsoft, as it will determine the fate of its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The FTC is seeking a preliminary injunction to halt the deal, and Microsoft has until July 18 to close the acquisition or face significant financial consequences.
The case has seen notable executives, including Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision, and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, provide testimony. The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority has also tried to block the acquisition, and Microsoft is currently appealing the decision.
