Google has affirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Indian Government and industry stakeholders to promote ethical development in Artificial Intelligence (AI). This pledge comes after a meeting between IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and representatives from major social media platforms and other stakeholders.
Vaishnaw expressed the government’s intention to formulate new regulations to detect and restrict the proliferation of deepfakes, emphasizing the threat they pose to democracy and societal trust. Google, responding to the need for protective measures against synthetic content, highlighted its ongoing efforts in crafting tools and protocols to mitigate associated risks.
The company underscored its commitment to responsible AI development, prioritizing societal benefits while actively addressing potential challenges in line with its AI principles. Google also emphasized its work in developing tools and frameworks to curb technology misuse, including investments in technologies like watermarking and synthetic audio detection.
The goal is to empower individuals to better assess online information and enable safer content identification.
