Xiaomi is set to replace MIUI with Xiaomi HyperOS as the operating system for its Xiaomi 14 series

Xiaomi has officially confirmed the upcoming transition from MIUI to Xiaomi HyperOS as its new operating system for smartphones and tablets. This change was previously hinted at through rumors and trademark registrations, with mentions of “MiOS” and trademarks like ‘Xiaomi Pengpai’ and ‘Xiaomi Hyper.’ Interestingly, while it’s referred to as HyperOS in English, the Chinese text translates it to “ThePaper OS.”

Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, has announced that the Xiaomi 14 series will be the first to feature this new OS, and production has already commenced. Moreover, the company plans to gradually replace MIUI with HyperOS on older devices that currently use MIUI.

The specifics of Xiaomi’s approach with HyperOS remain somewhat unclear. It’s uncertain whether Xiaomi will shift to an Android version-based operating system, similar to how competitors like ColorOS, OxygenOS, OneUI, and Funtouch OS base their software on the latest Android version each year. There are reports suggesting that Xiaomi may draw inspiration from HUAWEI’s Harmony OS, utilizing the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and microkernel to build its OS.

Further details about HyperOS are expected to emerge in the coming weeks. Xiaomi is likely to introduce this new operating system alongside the Xiaomi 14 series, which is anticipated to launch sometime in November.
