YouTube is experimenting with a feature that aims to simplify song identification by allowing users to hum or record tunes within the app.
Often, people encounter songs they enjoy but don’t know the name of, leading to the frustration of searching for them online.
This problem has been tackled by services like Shazam and Google Assistant’s music recognition.
YouTube now enters the arena with its experiment, which utilizes similar technology as Google Assistant’s “hum to search.
” By humming or recording a song for a little over three seconds, the machine learning algorithm identifies matches and presents relevant results, including official music videos, covers, or Shorts.
The feature is currently being tested on a limited scale with a select group of Android users. Its broader availability will depend on its reception and potential for driving views and engagement on the platform.
It’s worth noting that there’s no indication yet of it being exclusive to YouTube Premium.
