YouTube Unveils ‘Playables’ Gaming Arcade for Premium Subscribers

YouTube is introducing a new feature called ‘Playables’ for its Premium subscribers, allowing them to play over 30 arcade games directly within the YouTube app without the need for downloads. This expansion of offerings for Premium subscribers includes popular games like Angry Birds Showdown, Cannon Balls 3D, Daily Crossword, Brain Out, Daily Solitaire, and Gin Rummy. To access Playables, Premium members need to enable the feature by going to the experimental features page in the YouTube app. The Playables shelf can be found on the homepage or in the explore menu on the app. This feature will be available to Premium members until March 28, with potential for a wider rollout and the addition of more premium games in the future.

In addition to Playables, YouTube is also introducing AI-powered comments summaries as part of its experimental features for Premium subscribers. This feature, available until December 5, utilizes AI to organize and summarize comments on videos with large comment sections. Users can choose to sort comments based on topics in the YouTube Android and iOS apps. However, users can only enable one of the two new experimental features at a time, meaning they have to disable Playables to access AI comment summaries.

This move follows YouTube’s recent expansion of its enhanced bitrate offering on 1080p videos to Premium users, initially introduced on iOS and now available on Android devices and smart TVs. In India, YouTube Premium is priced at Rs. 1,290 for a 12-month plan, Rs. 399 for a three-month plan, Rs. 139 for a one-month prepaid plan, and Rs. 129 per month for a recurring monthly subscription after a one-month free trial.
